Minnesota State Building and Construction Trades Council selects its first Executive Director

On February 26, 2018, the Minnesota State Building and Construction Trades Council announced Carly Melin as its first Executive Director. Melin will provide leadership and carry out the directions of the State Building Trades Executive Board and its 70,000+ members.

"I am excited about moving the State Building Trades agenda forward.  Relationships, opportunities and practical legislation will continue to be the mission of the Council,” stated Melin.

A Hibbing native, Melin represented her hometown on Minnesota's Iron Range in the State House of Representatives from 2011 until 2017, including one term as Assistant Majority Leader. While in the House, Melin served on the Jobs and Economic Development Committee, the Capital Investment Committee, and the Mining Committee. During her tenure in the House, Melin championed many pieces of legislation aimed at improving the lives of working families, including those in the trades. Melin practiced law in both the public and private sectors during and after her time in the legislature.

Harry Melander, President of the State Building Trades says “We are excited to have Melin on board.  She brings legislative experience to the table, with that unique Iron Range edge.”

Melin will start her new position next week.
